Boulder 70.3 Race Report

Rainy awards but love that they held them at Avery Brewery!

Quick Race Recap: Overall very happy with 5th place. A podium is a podium!

I felt pretty calm going into the race and before starting swim, which is huge! My body felt ready and I wanted to get top 3 in my AG.
Started swim and had open water for most of the way. It’s always a cluster at buoys but not bad. Coming back in to finish, there were more swimmers stopping and doing breast stroke which slowed me down. I was happy with my swim time as it is always about the same and I was 12th in AG which is not bad for me!
Bike goal was to avg over 21 mph. According to bike computer, I did 21.1 (course is long so IM shows speed at 20.84)! There was a lot of blocking and drafting on the course. Since I'm a slow swimmer I pass a lot of people and they would not move over when I yelled "On your left!" I felt good for most of the bike and ended up with 2nd fastest bike split in AG.
T2 was the big issue… I got to my bike rack and the person next to me racked their bike backwards so I could not get my bike in. I didn’t know what to do so I decided to try and move their bike, which was not a good idea. I was attempting to balance 2 bikes and had no free hand to rack either of them. I froze but eventually got them both on the rack. That cost me time, which would later keep me out of 3rd place (My T2 was actually slower than T1!).
I started the run feeling pretty good but had already gotten warm on the bike. I stopped at each aid station to get water and ice. I always slow down too much to get my electrolytes out of race belt but I didn’t want to skip them in the heat. I slowed a bit from first to second lap but tried to keep running. I ended up at 9:30 pace which was 3rd fastest in my AG... just not enough time to catch 4th and 3rd.
I’m annoyed with my T2 that cost me placement but it’s my fault. I should have just racked my bike backwards and got out of there. There’s always something in every race but I’m happy with a spot on the podium at 5th!
Huge thanks to all the volunteers that make this happen, @fikse69 and @magnusbosonmiller for all the support on and off the race course and to all my amazing teammates!!

Feeling like my run legs are finally starting to come back!
